Questionnaire.

Age? 23.

Sex? Female.

What is your degree subject (both if joint)? English.

Does ‘Being Bad’ relate well to the other modules you are taking? Yes, because it is different to what I am currently studying. It allows you to interact more with discussions and do online research.

Have you found ‘Being Bad’ too demanding, too easy, or at an appropriate level? I have found Being Bad on an appropriate level.

Do you think the list of topics covered on the module was appropriate? Yes, the topics studied were good.

Are there any topics not included in the module that you would like to see included? I would like to see other topics like alcohol and current affairs in the module.

Do you think that the format for classes has worked well? I think the module started a little late because people who have lessons at 10am begin to feel tired and miss out on this lecture in the evening.

What did you think of the module team? The module team are fab!

The approach taken in the module is interdisciplinary (drawing on perspectives from English Literature, Film Studies, Creative Writing, Philosophy, Media Studies and Politics): do you think this a useful way of approaching the topics covered in the module? I think everything was fine as in the discussions and debating because people contributed to most sessions.

Do you think that interdisciplinary modules are a good idea? Yes, the interdisciplinary idea was really good.

Do you think you have benefited from the interdisciplinary approach taken in the module? I feel as though I have benefited with the interdisciplinary sessions because it is different and you learn new things as you go along to the sessions.

Would you like to see more modules that cover this kind of subject matter? Yes, definitely. I’d like to see more modules like this subject matter.

Are you planning to take the follow-up module PH2004 ‘It Shouldn’t Be Allowed’ at level 2? Yes, I am definitely thinking of taking PH2004 in Level 2.

Would you recommend ‘Being Bad’ to a friend? I would recommend Being Bad to a friend.

Do you think that the blogs (web logs) were a good idea? Yes, the blogs were a good idea but it begins to get a little repetitive so it becomes a little boring.

What did you think of the other assessments (e.g. would it be better to have one longer assessment rather than two shorter ones?) I thought the assessment were fine as they were, however it did get a little confusing so they should be clarified.

What have you learned from the module? I have learnt that you should think about behaviour and what is the reason behind why people begin to behave badly. You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

What parts of the module have you found most useful and why? I have found everything useful because it was a mind opener. Sessions and lectures made me think how you should keep an open mind rather than judge instantly.

Are there any other comments you wish to make regarding ‘Being Bad’? I really enjoyed this module and it is something which makes you alert and aware with behaviour amongst youths nowadays.

Racism!

I really dislike racist people and racist remarks. There is no need for it. It is really unfair when people say nasty comments and especially being Asian it doesn't help at all. You hear it all the time in the streets and i just want to participate in the conversation to give them a piece of my mind.

Around a month ago I was at the bus-stop and I heard a guy, drunk and falling all over the place, shouting, "You dirty paki's, I hate you all, come and face me if you can, piss off to Pakistan". It really made my blood boil and I could have been bad and swore at him but then that would make me as shallow as him. There are many more Pakistanis in Britain who are Brit born and it just annoying to find why people can't get on. If you can't say anything nice then there's no need to say anything at all.

Graffiti

Some graffiti is really nice to look at but its just some random person who has talent who has used some cans of paint it but on the side off a building seems silly It's just wrong because it is costing the government money. It makes a place look run down and rough which can be a little off putting.

On my way to Uni i go past an area which isn't so bad but the graffiti makes it look bad. it is mainly teenagers who go out to do this. Just to remove graffiti from railways can cost up to £100,000! Money is being wasted to remove and prevent damage like this to places so why do people do this?

Respone to Laura's blog on Animal Cruelty!

http://laurabeingbad.blogspot.com/

I totally agree with your views on animal cruelty. It is sad when people can't be bothered to look after their pets. Why keep them when you can't be responsible enough to take care of pets? they need the same amount of care as children.

Response to Sinead's blog on Smoking.

http://sineadwebdalesthoughts.blogspot.com/

It is easier for non-smokers to say why do people smoke? and that they should stop. it is an addiction which grows and is difficult to stop whether you have been smoking for days or years.

To fulfill their addiction people don't really care on how much they pay or even if they are damaging their health. I am a non-smoker but like everything else it is the choice of every individual what they do, however i think you are right about NHS health care, but with the economy's downfall it does seem as this could be the government's next move on damaging health by smoking as women are at higher risk of lung cancer than men.

Response to Yasmin Steven's blog on Euthanasia.

http://www.yasminstevens.blogspot.com/

I agree with you as in you cannot decide whether it is right or wrong until you are in a situation where you have to decide what is the right step to take. i still think however suicide is wrong but if someone is suffering from a terminally illness and if medication and doctors cannot help then it should be there entire decision on what they want to do.

Reading your blog made me think that money isn't the key to happiness. People who have a lot of money tend to have more problems. Depression is a horrible illness which cannot be spotted easily and by the look of things his girlfriend was a gold digger.

Women Paedophiles!

All over the news and media we hear about men who sexually abuse children but according to research women are paedophiles as well but it is rarely discussed. I came across an article where a mother sexually abused her son until he was 13. twenty years later he has been affected by violence and drugs because of what he experienced as a child. he mainly took drugs so he could get away from the abuse he experienced and as soon as it got dark he would take drugs to feel safe.

This makes you think, even that you know you are being sexually abused by your mother and you know drug taking is wrong as well as dangerous, do you have any other option to feel safe? it is easier said then done to seek help but if you're tortured everyday then you can only rely on drugs or alcohol to forget what you go through.

kidnapping!

Kidnapping is dangerous and immoral. every time i see anything on the news about Madeline i really feel upset on how she was kidnapped whilst on holiday. Her parents are in hope that she is alive although she has been missing for 2 years.

Although that is not the end of kidnapping because it is on the rise. four people were arrested with kidnapping a man tied him up in a car loaded with gas canisters and told he was attached to a bomb.

I really wander why people do this? it only causes pain and grief for the victims family. it makes you think what is the world coming to and are we really safe?

Response to Kate’s blog on adopting from abroad.

http://katenicola89-kate.blogspot.com/

I understand why Kate is concerned with celebrities adopting from abroad as there are many children who need homes in the UK. I would like to add though this country is a country of hope and development and third world countries need all the help and aid which can be available to them even if it means more children are adopted in other countries than the UK.

If the children later on question why they look different to their siblings then they should be told that they are adopted because it is better coming from their parents than strangers.

Bigamy!

Bigamy is a crime of marrying while one has a wife or husband still living, from whom no valid divorce has been effected. Luckily it is considered against the law in the UK and is a crime. It is wrong and even if the wife agrees to her husband remarrying someone else without having a divorce then they can be sentenced to a minimum of 3years.

As I was researching for a link I came across an article where a man who is aged 71 had 14 wives and never did he legally divorce any one of his wives. This covers deceit, unfaithfulness, and betrayal and isn’t this similar to what we studied in the infidelity lecture?

I don’t personally think anyone could live their lives as being the second best in their marriage.

Isn’t marriage meant to be about equality and why commit to ‘vows’ when a mockery is made out of them!

Bad Comedians and Jokes!

The whole point of a bad comedian is to make us laugh. The worst thing is just when you have to sit there and put up with the nonsense.
The worst comedians are the ones who are racist and discriminate thinking that them type of jokes are funny but really they are painful.

infidelity is a sign of TROUBLE!

As we are all aware by now we have come to an understanding on what infidelity is! personally i believe infidelity is when a person in a relationship or marriage is betrayed and becomed unfaithful due to the deeds of their partner. whether this is having an affair or even a one night stand it is breaking the rules of commitment.

When women are told that there partner has been unfaithful to them they feel as their world has shattered., but hey girls you will be shocked to find out that men feel far far far worse than women to deal with affairs than women. (interesting to know)

I agree that infidelity arises when there are major problems in a relationship and couples can't really talk about their problem so they just go and confide in someone elsewhere. Do you think that is acceptable?? maybe an affair makes a relationship stronger once it is out in the open? infidelity is a sign of TROUBLE.

Despite what i have said i wouldn't be able to cope with infidelity regardless of the reasons or excuses!!!

Response to Laura’s blog on Euthanasia.

http://laurabeingbad.blogspot.com/

I agree with Laura. If someone is terminally ill and is suffering with pain and can’t bare it then it should be their choice and will to pass away. However like Laura said it is against mainly all religions.
What is wrong with injecting a suffering person to ease their pain?
No-one intends to take God’s role, personally i wouldn’t be able to see someone suffering and wishing for death.

http://www.religionfacts.com/big_religion_chart.htm

Alcohol

Just like everything else alcohol isn’t so bad as long as you consume it within the moderate consumption amounts. Many people are not aware of what the consequences are if they drink over the recommended limits. Some examples can be anxiety, slow breathing and heartbeat, impaired judgement causing accidents and injuries and many more.

Obesity can be easily associated with drinking excess amounts of alcohol.

A hang over can be the worse feeling ever which can last for a few days. As well as experiencing nausea, stomach upset and headaches it causes dry skin. Bad behaviour is common when drunk because alcohol is a depressant not a stimulant, so the next day one can feel guilty and low wondering what happened the night before.

Just think about this fact: alcohol itself is responsible for 33,000 deaths in the UK each year. This is due to reckless driving and fights in the streets because many people under the influence of alcohol do not know how they are behaving.

Another issue is the health of people. Liver disease can be one major illness for heavy drinkers. One third of the adult population is drinking enough alcohol to develop liver disease. Did you know alcohol is only second to smoking as a risk factor for oral and digestive tract cancers???

Response to Robs blog on Dealing Drugs.

http://robbeingbad.blogspot.com/

I don’t really think that drug dealers really care about who they are selling drugs too as long as they get the gear out of the way and as long as the cash flow keeps coming in. To them it may seem as an easy way to make their income and don’t forget it is tax free after all.

Also people become addicted to drugs and so many people have to put their livelihoods at stake so they could cure and meet the needs of their addiction.

It makes me think for instance wouldn’t a dealer have a guilty conscience if someone who bought drugs off them died off an overdose?

Drug dealers do not care about anyone but themselves. All they care about is money and nothing else. I think they do it because off the money but they do not realise the damaging effects it has on other people.

However the issue of drugs is now being taken seriously and police are raiding homes to cut down on this issue. Personally I think anyone caught with drugs should be dealt with a serious punishment unlike the new laws which are becoming lenient because longer sentences don’t change convicts.

Body Modification

There is nothing wrong with having tattoos or piercings as long as they are done moderately. If I saw someone who had loads of tattoos and piercings on their face obviously it would create reason to stare. I would not do it to be rude but it would just simply shock me. I don’t mind any forms of cosmetic surgery because it is an individual’s choice. What scares me though is some images I have seen on the net which seem rather painful, an example is a woman has corseting done in her back, OUCH! http://plasticsergeant.com/procedure/body-modification001

Something else which freaks me out is the arm implants which look sick and must hurt a lot. In conclusion some modifications are fine and some which go over the extreme should not be allowed! http://plasticsergeant.com/procedure/bodymodification743

Reply to Alex Tipper response to Sharon Meeley’s blog on dole dossers.

http://alexsunidiary.blogspot.com/

I completely agree with you both. I find it really frustrating that people milk the system and especially people who have never worked in their lives are on all sorts of benefits not thinking about tax payers.

The increase of single parents is increasing so more and more people are relying on welfare benefits. I personally think with all the help which is available parents can go back to work whether it is part or full time because child minders are available to take care of children and the government helps with the scheme.

I personally think that people who are incapable of work, due to disability or incapability should be entitled to receive help and funding, not them who laze around and can’t be bothered to work when they know they can.

Foreign immigrants should work and realise how hard it is to earn money and nothing in life is free!
Luckly the media is preventing the rise of benefit fraud which is a good thing. Benefit fraud is just like another crime. Honesty is the best policy as they say. In a way it is stealing from those people who are greatly in need of money and it is taken away from them. It isn't hundred, thousand or millions, it is actually BILLIONS!!!

Rape!

Any form of rape is wrong. It is disgusting and it makes me feel really upset to think how the victim feels after they have been raped. If someone is not interested is it difficult to take the rejection? there is no need to rape them. be brave and take NO as an answer.

Having researched the internet i came across an article which states marital rape should be legalised. that is offensive and just shows there is no democracy in some places. 300 women were against this new law in Afghanistan and were stoned as well as tolerating abuse from conservative opponents.

Reply to Summersun's Tax Mad.

http://karen-summersun.blogspot.com/

I could not believe what i read that obese people will be taxed. it is unfair but obesity is on the rise. Maybe this is a wake up call and due to this people will begin to take their health seriously.

Below are some facts that people are unaware off and are useful to know.

Another issue is that obesity is costing tax payers serious money and how is that suppose to help the recession?

http://missyblog25.blogspot.com/

That is a true point because i understand how it feels when you are standing in front of the vending machines just inserting the coins in the machine, and you think you are winning but as a matter of fact you are losing.

It is an addiction and is quite hard to break away from once you get involved. You can lose a lot more than money, i.e. family, wealth, property etc.

It becomes more of a problem than entertainment.

Check your speed!

Reckless driving is dangerous and can cause many deaths accidentally. It can be frustrating sitting in traffic especially if you have to attend an important appointment which you have been waiting for ages. This particularly applies to youngsters who are aged 17-24 and 24 million Brits.

It is something we should not do and the media is making people aware that speeding causes reckless driving as it is dangerous and causes deaths. It is so sad to see when walking or driving past how people have been killed in an accident and to pay their respects flowers are hanged on lamp-posts.

Responst to Fatima's Talibanistic Marriage Laws.

http://fatimaafser.blogspot.com/

Your blog made me laugh where you questioned the husbands choice of makeup, it really is bizzare.
The laws are strict in Afghanistan but they are man made as Islam does not state anything Mohammed Asif Mohseni says. to me they look like his needs.
it makes me question the point that if these points didn't arise in Shia law then Talibans would be committing adultery everyday as there wives need permission for everything.

I won't be suprised if the wife needs to ask her husband's permission to use the bathroom or if she can breathe?

I agree with you that these laws are ridiculous!

http://feminist.org/news/newsbyte/uswirestory.asp?id=11625

Drugs!

Just like everything else there is help available for drug addiction as well as medication. Nowadays it is all over the media and the common one is FRANK. People usually take them to make themselves feel better but that is no excuse. Most people undergo daily stress and have to deal with their problems, so does that mean they will spend a fortune on drugs? Thinking about it, it will have damaging effects on the mind and body.

The majority who use drugs are young people. I came across an article which reads that teens hallucinate with a legal drug which lasts up to half an hour.

I am against drugs because it can have an impact on your mind and body for the rest of your life.

Child Abuse!

WHAT and WHO gives the right to anyone to hurt someone or something? Either physically hurt them or mentally torture them? Especially children who are naive and innocent. The thought of this makes me really angry. In one of my blogs I mentioned the point that if you cannot look after your kids don’t have them in the first place. I hate it when I hear people shouting and screaming at their kids in the street where it just simply causes a scene for others to stare.
Anyways back to the point, after looking at the statistics of child abuse I was outraged to find out what poor children have to put up with.
How can a parent kill their own child? This happens every 10 days in England and Wales.
36% of children are raped under the age of 16.
Two thirds of children aged under 5 are killed by the hands of another person in England and Wales. (I will include a link for figures and statistics)
It makes me
think why do people do things which are wrong? If you abuse a child, how will that child grow up and become?
It just makes me sick when I read or hear about sexual child abuse. The main point is that children should be encouraged to report this behaviour otherwise some other child will become the next victim, for example, if it wasn’t for the victims who came forward when Parkinson, aka ‘Big Dave’ did this disgusting and immoral act he would be walking the streets as a free man and would have got away with 15years sentence.

Unprotected Sex!

Many people do not take the issue of unprotected sex seriously! Well it should as it is has effects and risks the lives of young people. Even if it is enjoyable why risk your health with HIV/AIDS? Or even become pregnant unplanned? I was shocked to find out that 43% of Britons (people living in Britain) have unprotected sex and take no precaution. Looking at the figures look likes Britons are simply sex mad.
Although there are many messages sent out not to have unprotected intercourse via media or health professionals the number of teenage pregnacies is still on the rise. Why aren't people paying attention?

Abortion!

Abortions are wrong. The way I look at it is if you don’t want to get pregnant don’t have unprotected sex! It is simple. Why have unprotected sex and then destroy a life? Obviously this is a controversial debate which is on going. On the other hand, if there is a problem with the child and the parents are unable to look after their child then it is a possibility to abort the child. It does seem as though I am contradicting myself but what I am trying to say is that if you are careless and have unprotected sex then it is wrong to abort your child but if the child has medical problems or the mother is at risk of losing her life.

reply to Summersun's response to Laura Payne's blog on Bullying

http://karen-summersun.blogspot.com/

I agree with you. i think that children should feel comfortable in approaching for help when and if they are bullied. it is not an easy or simple thing to do, because you need that someone who you can confide in. i think the government should advertise this mainly on televisions and launch video games which will aware kids on what they should do and what help is available.
However it isn't kids who are bullied, most adults experience it as well.

Stalking!

Stalking is scary and something which should not be taken as a joke. In no case is stalking okay. It is invasion of privacy and space which could lead to other serious and complicated issues. Intrusions include gathering information and surveillance of pictures and other video footages. This can lead to unsafe and dangerous behaviour and other problems such as fraud on the victim’s behalf.

Stealing!

Stealing is wrong but it is something which has been done once in our lifetimes, but I feel as though some people have to do it even if they do not want to. It is no excuse but sometimes you need to think beyond morals and just have to perceive why people steal? On the other hand people who can afford to buy things steal them instead simply to save money. This is something I have been thinking about since Week 3 of lecture.

Prostitution

Prostitution should remain illegal although it isn't which i was shocked when i found out, however kerb-crawling is but this doesn't apply to Scotland.
It is exploitation of women. Why can’t these women simply work and earn a honest living? There is no excuse. If they can’t work full-time then find a part time job. I read an article which I will post the URL link for and it made me angry but on the other hand it made me laugh. This is because a guy who is now 41 has spent around £100,000 on paying prostitutes for 25 years, in 2004. Having read his article my conclusion was that he didn’t enjoy intimacy and just loved paying for sex. Is this really the way to make easy money? Despite laws why has the rate of prostitution doubled in the UK since the last 10 years?

Can you handle the truth?

Everyone goes on saying how bad it is to lie. But would the world be a better place if everyone told the truth? I don’t think so! Some people can’t handle the truth. Personally I don’t like the idea of lying but before you know it something roles off the tongue and I can’t believe what I have said or how I thought of an excuse right on the spot but it is not to hurt my loved ones or any ‘white lies’. My point is that in some point in life one has lied if not on purpose but accidentally. Lying is part of human nature and is unavoidable. It is wrong, we shouldn’t do it but why do we? Can the truth always be handled?

Reply to Relly 007 on Smoking

http://relly007.blogspot.com/

I totally disagree with you. I think the idea of banning smoking in bus shelters is a brilliant idea. Maybe it isn’t for smokers but look at the impact it has on non-smokers especially young children. Passive smoke is much more harmful than actually lighting up a cigarette. Due to inhaling second hand smoke did you know you could be at risk of heart disease and cancer? The health of people and young children has been taken into consideration because in each cigarette there are 4,000 harmful toxic chemicals which are damaging others lives and health’s, just by passive smoking.

Masturbation

Personally I do not like the idea of masturbation but maybe it is because I am ‘old fashioned’. Nowadays it does not seem to be a problem. I mean having sexual pleasure whilst the partner is away or just for the sake of it in toilets at work or even in the car.

Let’s take George Michael as an example. In 1998, he was arrested in Beverly Hills public park toilets for a ‘lewd act’. He was found masturbating in the toilets when an undercover police officer caught him out. People usually get inspired with what celebrities do, wear, and eat and so on. He was caught in the act again in London in March 2007. Can you imagine walking down the road and seeing people masturbating? I find it disturbing and I don’t think it is something I will get my head around. A lot of people will perceive this topic in a different way but despite it being safe and perfectly healthy it is a no no for me as I define it as unreasonable behaviour.

Monster fathered OWN grandchildren!

In April 2008 the whole world was shocked when we heard about Josef Fritzl who locked up his own daughter for 24 years when she was 18 years old. Not only is that bad enough he had seven children with her. This secret was discovered after one child became seriously ill and was rushed to hospital.
A few days ago Fritzl admitted to ‘partial’ rape of his daughter who he had locked up in his man made dungeon. This is an on going case which has shocked the whole world. The charges which apply to him are rape, incest, murder and enslavement. He has now pleaded guilty to all his charges. Over 24 years Fritzl has blatantly lied to his wife in the 24 year gap when she questioned him on the whereabouts of their daughhter. He continuously lied to her with different excuses.
In week 1 of the lecture we briefly touched upon the subject of incest. It is completely wrong. I mean how can a father rape his daughter since the age of 18 and keep her locked up and wasting away for 24 years? Not only that he has 8 children but one of them died, leaving 7 of them alive. The four charges Fritzl has been charged for should result in drastic action. This should convey a message to others that this type of immoral behaviour is unacceptable and should be sentenced with a severe punishment. In this case 'sorry' isn't just good enough.

Universities want higher fees!!!

Oh my God! Many of the Universities in England and Wales want to raise the tuition fees. They can go up to £4,000 and vary between £20,000 per year. That is bad; I mean how will students afford to pay this? It is bad enough that we have to take out maintenance loans and with the increase to fees it will mean that many students will drop out. How can vice chancellors think about this at this moment of time especially with the recession taking over?

That means at the end of our degree we will have to pay off a higher debt. If our fees go up to £7,000 per year we will be left with £32,000 to clear off. This is a prime example of GREED. Just think about it, this is the fees for students in England and Wales, what price will International students have to pay???

I agree with you guys completely. The problem is though once you have lied successfully and got away with it then is develops inito a habit and people use it everyday whether they reliase it or not.
I do not seem to understand why people find it difficult to apologise? They find it easier to lie than simply apologise..

Week 12.

I think in week 12 we should discuss the impact of drinking alcohol and the consumption amount. The main reason of why we should discuss this is because throughout the module major issues have been covered apart from drinking. People should learn and be told what impact alcohol can have on their bodies.
